The Digital Age has thus far been characterized by a constant push for device miniaturization (and, increasingly, microminiaturization) while simultaneously enhancing speed, lifespan, and energy-efficiency. Moore’s Law predicted in 1965 that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits – and, thus, computer power – would double approximately every year (later revised to two years). So far, that prediction has mostly held true. Today a single smartphone is millions of time more powerful than the combined computing power of NASA when man first set foot on the moon in 1969.

None of this advancement would be possible without high purity electronic chemicals such as dopants, etchtants, and photo resists. It is these chemicals that fuel microfabrication – processes integral to the creation of silicon wafers, flat panel displays, semiconductors, and circuit boards. As the electronics industry continues its push towards smaller, faster devices, so, too, must electronic chemical companies continue their push towards enhancement of custom formulations, development of new photovoltaic uses, and the increase of chemical purities.
